Two Days Unemployed

Lisa came over on Wednesday. I think she did it so as to make my first day of not going to work easier and less depressing. It was sweet of her. We had a MacGyver-thon. Lisa is the only other person I know who likes MacGyver. It's great having someone to watch it with.

We only watch it when we have time to get together. We only just finished the first season yesterday. I anticipate it is going to take us a while to get through all 7 seasons. In fact I don't even own all seven yet but I will.

MacGyver is one of those great memories of my childhood. I remember watching MacGyver in our old house with my Mom. She would be doing the ironing and I would be sitting the wrong way on the pleather recliner that sat right in front of the TV.

The episode that I definitely remember watching with her was Trumbo's World. It was the episode with the killer ants that could swim. Yeah that episode scared me to death as a kid. I remember that I couldn't watch the part where the ants swarm this one guy and leave nothing but his hat and glasses. If anyone recently saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull then you would have gotten a view of something similar.

MacGyver became a show that almost the whole family watched - well maybe not my sisters but definitely both my parents and Babcia and Dziadziu. On days when both my parents were working Babcia and Dzaidziu would babysit my sisters and I. Dzaidziu and I would watch MacGyver together.

I think the reason that MacGyver fascinated me so much as a kid was because I could see a lot of Dzaidziu in him. Dzaidziu was a jack of all trades and had the same kind of creative mind. He could fix anything with very little. Dzaidziu's shed was full of all sorts of 'useless' odds and ends. Well useless to us but everything in there he knew he would use. A lot of it he did.

Whenever something of mine broke or when I needed something made all I had to do was ask Dzaidziu and he would find a way. He never let me down when it came to that. I still miss him very much. Watching MacGyver again I can't help but think of him.
